Foundation Stage

We’ve had so much fun celebrating Pancake Day today! We enjoyed reading the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes and spotted some characters from the fairytales we have been reading. We helped Mr Wolf to write his shopping list and then followed the recipe to make our own pancakes. We chose our own toppings…

This week we have enjoyed practising drawing our own polar bear. We spent time looking at different images and recreating our own. We carefully used a range of straight and curved lines. They then created their own chalk polar bear. 

We have been practising our tricky troll words in lots of different ways. We spotted them in some books, played games, used flash cards and practised writing them without peeking! We are doing brilliantly! 

This week we have been exploring melting and freezing. We have learnt lots of new words like frozen, solid, liquid, melting and temperature. We’ve been learning all about snow, ice and Arctic animals. We held pieces of ice to see what happened and enjoyed talking about the melting process. 

We watched a video about a little girl called Sophia who celebrated the Jewish festival of Hanukkah with her family. We learnt all about the traditions including decorations, candles, songs, games, prayers and food. We followed a recipe for latke (potato pancakes) and made them. The Jewish people…

We have been learning about different celebrations. We have talked about Bonfire night, birthdays and Diwali. Look at the wonderful diva lamps and rangoli patterns we have made! 
 

In nursery we have been taking part in activities and talking all Autumn. We have been on walks to explore and look out for the changes that are happening around us.

We have had a great time using our imaginations in nursery.  We have had fun dressing up as different characters from our favourite stories. We also worked together to create a junk model train to go on our adventures. 

This week we have been looking at patterns in our environment, in nature and repeating patterns. We have made patterns using natural materials, objects around the classroom and even ourselves! We have made colour patterns, size patterns, shape patterns and patterns with actions. 

We’ve had such a busy few days in reception. We had lots of fun in our phonics lessons; improving our letter formation in different media, working on hearing initial sounds and reading words to find matching pairs. In maths, we have been comparing objects, quantities, heights and lengths. We have…
