Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage at Springfield offers high quality education, giving children a safe, secure and confident start to their school life. We understand that children learn best when they are absorbed, interested and active and are proud that our setting has an underlying ethos of ‘Learning through Play’. Our environment enables children to expand their communication and language skills, fine and gross motor skills and personal, social and emotional development. At Springfield we foster a love of reading through the sharing and discussion of high quality and age appropriate texts. We use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds to teach reading and writing. In maths we work practically to build counting skills, number and calculation, numerical patterns, shape, space and measures. We build our early verbal reasoning skills through problem solving activities. Every child is recognised as unique and we celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. We provide enhancement opportunities to engage learning and enrich the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world and believe that our first experiences of school should provide the foundations for our children to be honest, respectful, determined, passionate, have self-belief and be able to work as a team. We work in partnership with parents to encourage independent, happy learners who thrive and reach their full potential from their various starting points.
