This week, the children have started to multiply two digits by two digits. They began by looking at the area model, which uses base 10 to create a physical multiplication model in order to find the answer.

Step 1: build the length and the width using the multiplication calculation

32 x 24

Step 2:  multiply the length by the width

Step 3: find the total of each area

Once this has been completed, the children added up the total amounts to find the answer.

600 + 120 + 40 + 8 = 768

Following this, the children began to draw the diagrams.

Although they found this tricky at first, they all challenged themselves and are now confident in finding the answers.
