We have been exploring numbers and number shapes using the numicon. The children quickly became confident recognising the number from the shape and colour of the piece. We played matching games, counting games and eventually went on to use the numicon for addition. This resource is fantastic for provoking curiosity around number. While they were playing and exploring, the children began to spontaneously and independently compare, order and combine the shapes & numbers.
