Today we were given the challenge :

Can you make newspaper strong?

In our Kagan groups we were given a lot of newspaper and we had to try to use it to make a structure  to hold Winston (the teddy).  We had to think of how best to do it; lay it, fold it, squash it, roll it and anything else.  We tried all the options, some worked, some  didn’t.

In the end, we found that rolling it was best but the rolls had to be tight.

After play, we tested what we had made.  All of the structures we made held Winston but could they hold 1, 2, 3 or more dictionaries?

Yes!  There were a few structures that could hold 3 or more dictionaries.  When we looked closely they all had tight rolls.  We are going to be using what we found out next week when we design and make our bridges.
