As a start to our art work today, we have been practising some of our pencil skills. To begin with, we looked at different pencils with different tones. When we write, we use a HB pencil which is medium hardness and then we looked at a 2B drawing pencil which is much softer, but can produce darker lines. We found we could smudge the 2B pencil which will be useful when we shade things, but we wouldn’t want it when we write!
Next, we looked at building up texture and we practised lots of different skills (hatching, contour hatching, cross hatching, random hatching and stippling) to help us build up texture.
After that, we practised building up texture using the skills we had looked at.
