Today we have launched our whole school reading challenge. Each child has been challenged to read around the UK. Each child will have been given a reading challenge leaflet to complete. Our first journey takes us from home to the Dock Tower and then onwards to the Humber Bridge. There are six activities between each stage, which can be done in any order. We would like parents to sign and date each activity once it has been completed. Once the two stages have been completed, the children will be able to choose a small reward from Mr. Willett.
After Christmas, we will launch the next two stages of our epic journey. We would really like to encourage the children to take up this challenge. Reading is a life skill, but we also want to encourage our children to read for enjoyment. There is strong evidence linking reading for pleasure and educational outcomes. We know that academic attainment is of vital importance, but the benefits of reading for pleasure go beyond this and stretch throughout a person’s life. There is a clear link between reading for pleasure and a person’s well-being. We hope, therefore, that you will be able to support your child as they begin their journey.
