This week the children have been learning about weight. They picked up objects to see if they were heavy or light and then compared them to see which was the heaviest or lightest. The children had lots of fun doing this and were sometimes surprised that things weren’t always as they seemed.
The children had fun playing with the Bee-bots, making them move in different directions. They tried to make the Bee-bot go to their partner. He didn’t always get there, oops!
This week in Nursery we have been learning about Bonfire Night and why we celebrate it. The children shared their Bonfire Night experiences with us and enjoyed making fireworks with slices of apple and banana on sticks, dipped in caramel and decorated with sprinkles and chocolate chips… yummy!
We had a visit from Frank from Andrew’s Hedgehog Hospital. He brought Jack the hedgehog with him and told us lots of interesting facts about hedgehogs. Jack was very cute and the children really enjoyed meeting him.
We have had lots of fun in Nursery this week celebrating Halloween.
The children have been learning about capacity and have been making spooky potions. They enjoyed exploring pumpkins and making a pumpkin lantern. Miss Barnett made pumpkin soup with the children, it was yummy! We read spooky stories and dressed up as witches in role-play.
This week in Forest School we talked about how the birds find it more difficult to find food as the weather changes and we made bird feeders by threading Cheerios onto pipe cleaners. We hung them in the trees for a yummy surprise for the birds.
In P.E. this week the children have been practising their ball skills. They rolled a ball to their partner and then had a go at throwing and catching it. They were very good at it too!
The children have also been learning about pattern. They had a look at patterns around the environment and saw stripes, checks, spots and many other patterns. Then they made repeating patterns using coloured cubes and shapes.
The children have been learning about animal habitats and in Forest School this week they made a nest for the birds. They collected twigs to make the shape of the nest and added feathers and leaves to make it soft and warm for the birds to sit on.
This week we have been learning about 2D shapes. We went on a shape walk around school looking at the different shapes of every day objects such as doors, windows, clocks etc. The children made shape monsters using 2D shapes… with very sharp triangular teeth!
At Forest School this week we had to help Mousey find his friends. We searched and searched and eventually we found them all and made him very happy. It was great fun and we even had time for a little bit of tree climbing!
