How cool are castles?

What a fantastic way to start our new topic and the new year! We had a fun filled day with the prettiest princesses, handsome princes and super cool knights! Everyone looked absolutely fantastic and what a huge effort you had all made!

We started our day off by working collaboratively in groups to create a 3D castle out of Lego. You all certainly used your imaginations and created some very extravagant and interesting castles! It was so nice to see you all working so well together to create the coolest castle! We followed this by drawing what we think a real castle looks like.

After having a banquet at lunch time and the knights practicing their sword fighting we created our own tiaras and crowns which all looked fantastic! We then discussed what the role of a knight is. Mrs Robinson was very impressed with our ideas and knowledge we had. We then created our own knight collages which we can’t wait to show you!

After such an exciting day we can’t wait to see where our learning will take us next into the world of castles!

We had great fun this morning when Miss Green came into P.E to play some games with us. We had a game of chickens and foxes where the chickens had to run fast to keep hold of their feathers before the foxes got them. Next we became superheroes and villains. The villains tried to freeze us by throwing the soft ball at our legs and the superheroes had to save us by taking us to their base.

This morning, Mrs Deller came in to talk to KS1 about advent. She had prepared lots of fun and exciting activities for us to complete. We decorated angels, made advent boxes to create a class advent calendar and we made an advent wreath. We really enjoyed our morning of craft activities.

Tens and ones!

We have been super clever in maths this week! Our focus is place value to 20 and we all really impressed Mrs Robinson as we were looking at how many tens and ones there are in a number. We used ten frames and base 10 to help us. Here are just a few snaps of us working with our partner!

Jack the hedgehog!

We have had a lovely week this week learning and writing about hedgehogs. In Literacy we have been working hard writing a hedgehog fact file. On Wednesday we were very excited to hear a special visitor was coming to see us. Frank from the hedgehog hospital came to visit us with his hedgehog Jack! Frank told us lots of interesting information and even though Jack was a little shy at first he was soon walking around the hall saying hello to us all! In the afternoon we made hedgehog collages. We collected lots of leaves from outside and created some fantastic art work. We can’t wait to show you!

Bog Baby Habitats!

We had a fantastic afternoon on Wednesday creating a habitat for our Bog babies! We took our time to plan what we would like the perfect habitat to be and then couldn’t wait to create it. We were very excited to welcome our very special visitors in to help us and we can’t thank all of the many parents and grandparents that came in to help create our habitats. The finished products were all very impressive indeed and I think it’s fair to say our bog babies will be very happy in their new homes!

Hot seating Bog Baby!

This week we have been learning all about questions. On Tuesday we wrote questions that we would like to ask the Bog baby. We had lots of fantastic ideas! William wanted to know what Bog baby’s favourite food was. Sienna asked Bog baby if all of the babies at the end of the story were his and Noah asked the Bog baby what he’d like to play. We had lots of fun hot seating Bog baby and asking him all of our questions! Mrs Robinson was so impressed by how some of us became Bog baby and the answers that we gave. Well done Year 1!

Classroom in the woods!

We had a fantastic day at classroom in the woods on Tuesday. We were all geared up in our wellies and coats and couldn’t wait to see what habitats we would be exploring! We began by investigating the hedgerows and woodlands to see what was growing there and why. Then we visited the stream and had a close look at what wildlife was living there after doing some dipping! Our last habitat was the grassland, we did grass weaving and searched for bugs for our magnifying boxes. I think its definitely safe to say though that our favourite part was having a paddle in the stream!
