Start of the School Day
I would like to remind all parents that school starts at 9am for all children. The whistle is blown on the Key Stage 2 playground at 8.55am. This is to allow time for our older children to enter school and settle, ready for the start of the day. It also helps those parents that are dropping off a child on both playgrounds. The whistle is blown on the Key Stage 1 playground at 9am and the children enter through their classroom doors. The Foundation Stage doors are also opened at 9am. If your child is late, they may have to enter school through the office area. Any child who arrives in school after 9.05am will receive a late mark.
This term we have introduced a whole school Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum. This is a planned programme of learning through which all of our children acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives – now and in the future. As part of our whole school approach, our PSHE curriculum develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. If you would like more information, have a look at our website, under the Curriculum heading.
Please take time to have a look at our school website. In the Curriculum section of the site, you are able to access information about each year group’s curriculum, homework menus and Year group routines letters. All of our newsletters are published on the website. Each of our classes has their own blog in which they post all of the latest class news and photographs. You can sign up to these so that you don’t miss out on anything.
Increase to Club Charges
This term has seen an increase in charges for our skipping club. Over the past few years, the club has been subsidised from school funds. However, due to the current financial climate we now need to ensure that the club is cost neutral. The increase in cost covers staff wages and equipment. We do not make a profit from any of the clubs run by our own staff. The cost of the club is still cheaper than the cost of an hour’s childcare.
Changes to our medicines policy
As a member of the Enquire Learning Trust, we have to follow Trust policies and procedures. Our new Administration of Medicines policy states that we are not allowed to administer non-prescription medicines, such as Calpol. Prescription medicines can be administered, but a form must be signed to authorise this. Please ask at the school office if you would like us to administer any prescription medicines for your child. We still have a number of children’s medicines at the school office if you would like to collect them.
Over the next few weeks we will be sending out data collection sheets and consent forms. The data collection sheets ensure that we have up to date contact information. The consent forms give you opportunity to consent to visits/walks during the school day, the use of photography and whether or not your child is able to walk home alone from a club (Year 3 upwards). These sheets are very important and we would be grateful if you would return them to school as soon as possible. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
If you have any old board games or colouring books that your child no longer uses, our lunchtime staff would be grateful for them. Thank you in anticipation of your help.
After School Clubs
I understand that there will be times when your child will not be able to attend an after school club that you have booked your child onto. Please could I ask that you inform the school office if they are not attending. It is our policy to contact the parent of any child ‘missing’ from the club. This is taking quite a bit of our admin time at the end of the day, only for us to find that they are safe with their parent.
